Kenji Iwai is President and Chairman of the Board of MBK Real Estate LLC (MRE). As President and Chairman, he is responsible for the overall management of the Company. He oversees the development and execution of the Company’s fiscal strategies, evaluates the organization’s fiscal function and performance as well as directs MRE’s subsidiaries to fulfill the strategic goals of the organization.
Mr. Iwai has held various leadership positions within Mitsui & Co. Ltd., most recently as Deputy General Manager, Human Resources & General Affairs Division and Corporate Planning Division. Mr. Iwai previously served as General Manager of the US Real Estate Business, Strategic Planning and Investment Management Department.

After earning a degree in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Mr. Iwai joined Mitsui in 1997 in the company’s Residential Business Division in Tokyo. He has worked in various capacities in Asia, Europe, and the US.
Hiroshi Sugita brings more than 20 years of experience in investment and business development to his position as Executive Vice President of MBK Real Estate, overseeing the company’s overall management. In addition, Hiroshi has also been initiating the launch of a private fund strategy aiming at utilizing MBK’s platform and Mitsui’s global network.
Hiroshi has worked for Mitsui & Co., Ltd since 1998. Before joining MBK, he has led multiple investments and real estate projects at Mitsui & Co., including M&A of Mitsui’s subsidiaries in property management and development projects and industrial REIT in Singapore.
Hiroshi earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Waseda University, Japan, and a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Ed Stokx is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial & Administrative Officer of MBK Real Estate and its affiliated companies. In this role, Mr. Stokx leads the company’s capital raising efforts, including debt and third-party equity. In addition, Stokx oversees the company’s finance and accounting functions as well its IT and HR resources, which support the MBK’s 2,200 employees.
Prior to joining MBK in 2017, Mr. Stokx served 14 years as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial officer of PS Business Parks, a publicly traded real estate investment trust focused on office and industrial assets across the United States. In his capacity at PS Business Parks, Mr. Stokx led the company’s debt and equity raising efforts as well as its investor relations efforts. While at PS Business Parks, Mr. Stokx led the efforts to form the company’s multi-family joint venture which focused on replacing obsolete office properties with state-of-the-art apartment communities.
Prior to joining PS Business Parks, Mr. Stokx served as Chief Financial Officer of Center Trust, Inc., a publicly traded real estate investment trust focused on developing and managing community retail centers. He was instrumental in the company’s 2003 merger with another public REIT. Mr. Stokx joined Center Trust in October 1997 after having assisted taking the company public while working for Deloitte.
Mr. Stokx is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and is a certified public accountant.
Ken McCarren is the President of MBK Rental Living. In his role, he is responsible for the Operations and Asset Management of all operating and planned MBK multi-family communities. Mr. McCarren has over 30 years of experience in Asset Management. Prior to recently joining MBK Rental Living he was responsible for the multi-family portfolio located in six western States owned by Merage Investment Group. Previously in his career, he spent 15 years as SVP of Asset Management responsible for the entire Irvine Company Apartment portfolio of over 44,000 apartment homes located throughout California. Mr. McCarren spent four years as the SVP Asset Management at BRE, a large public REIT owning over 22,000 units located throughout six Western States where he was responsible for the entire portfolio. Mr. McCarren also spent four years as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. McCarren holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California State University at Long Beach. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds the designation of Certified Property Manager from the Institute of Real Estate Management.
Kevin brings over three decades of senior living management experience to MBK Senior Living. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations at Discovery Senior Living, where he implemented scalable processes and infrastructure to drive organizational growth.
Throughout his career, Kevin has held key leadership roles, including managing operations for over 650 senior living communities nationwide as Regional Vice President of Operations and later Executive Vice President of Community Operations at Brookdale Senior Living.
Kevin’s journey in senior living began after his honorable service in the U.S. Army and earning a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton. Starting as a Nursing Home Administrator, he rapidly advanced to oversee skilled nursing and senior living facilities across California and Arizona. From 2004 to 2010, Kevin served as Director of Operations at Sunrise Senior Living, further solidifying his expertise in the industry.
With a wealth of experience and a commitment to enhancing senior living, Kevin is dedicated to fostering vibrant communities and delivering exceptional care.
Anita Hsu is Senior Vice President, General Counsel of MBK Real Estate Companies. She currently oversees all related legal matters for MBK Real Estate and its subsidiaries, MBK Senior Living, MBK Rental Living, MBK Homes and MBK Industrial Properties.
Before joining MBK, she was a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, specializing in real estate transactions, including complex acquisitions and dispositions, financing, leasing and other matters related to the ownership and development of commercial, industrial, residential and retail properties. She also served (on secondment) as in-house legal counsel for an alternative energy company.
Anita received her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and she was a recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Albert Perez serves as the Senior Vice President of Information & Technology for MBK Real Estate and its affiliated companies. In this role, Mr. Perez is responsible for the technology direction, design, security, ERP overnight, business intelligence and development & sustainability for the organizations business solutions.
Before joining MBK, he had a career in public accounting specializing in business risk and technology advisory, consulting, and operational restructuring. His expertise is in the areas of business advisory for IT optimization, business transformation and manufacturing. In the dotcom era Mr. Perez owned a successful independent advisory firm specializing in ERP implementations, supply chain optimization and business restructuring activities.
Albert earned his BS from The University of La Verne and attended executive education courses at Stanford in the field of technology innovation.
Karla Wiseman is Senior Vice President, People and Culture of MBK Real Estate Companies. In this role, she is responsible for all people matters for MBK Real Estate and its subsidiaries, MBK Senior Living, MBK Rental Living and MBK Industrial Properties.
Before joining MBK in 2024, Karla served in various HR leadership positions with First American Financial. In this role, she was responsible for aligning talent needs to support and drive business strategies, including workforce management, succession planning, compensation planning, employee recognition and rewards, and performance management. Other past roles include Assistant Dean and Executive Director for Executive Education at the University of Southern California and Andersen, where she consulted on the operations, people, and process needs of large corporations.
Karla holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
Michael grew up in Northern California where he developed an adventurous spirit and a love for the outdoors. He began racing stock cars at the young age of fifteen and later jumped out of a perfectly good airplane twice before setting out to hike the Grand Canyon from one rim to the other in a single day.
Michael started his career leasing and managing apartment communities in San Jose, CA and has lived and worked in many cities throughout the country including Phoenix, Kansas City, Seattle, Chicago, and Dallas. In 2009, he discovered senior living and was inspired by the incredible lives and experiences of the many residents, and the selfless dedication of caring team members. In the last ten years, he has directed as many as 68 communities as Vice President of Operations for two large national senior living providers.
Today, Michael lives in Huntington Beach, CA with Julie, his wife of 20 years and their two cats, Peyton & Hobie. They enjoy traveling and exploring new places and spending as much time as possible with Miichaels 90 year old grandmother,
who still lives on her own and has been one of the most influential people in his life.
